Rigel and SilverSnow

It’s a big file, all those details took forever and I want to show them all


A few weeks ago I talked to ChelseaDanger about our sailor senshi. Then I realised something, while there was back at SMOCT quite some art with Victoria and Roxy, there is no art ( except for big group pictures ) of Sailor SilverSnow and Sailor Rigel.

And then the idea for this composition popped in my head, and I had to go for it.
I tried my best to make it look like they are two different girls, and not just the same girl in different colours with different hair and a different outfit.

I was very tempted to ask Chelsea some questions about Rigel’s looks, but I decided not to. _{( I was afraid that if I did I would create extra pressure for myself because I would feel I had to finish it quickly.}
So I studied drawings of Rigel/Roxie instead, especially those that also contained other characters in order to find some features.
So Here are some I tried to use to make the two girls different.
I tried to give Rigel a hint of muscle, since she does ballet, while I tried to make SilverSnow very skinny. _{Honesly in the earlier sketches when they didn’t have clothes yet it was far mor visible… I also felt the urdge to make SilverSnow eat a hamburger or something… but somehow I can’t force her.}
I tried to give Rigel a more oval face and SilverSnow a more heartshaped face.
I gave Rigel a very shallow cupids bow ( I somehow didn’t manage to draw her lips without ) while I gave SilverSnow a more visible cupids bow.  
I drew Silversnow’s eyes a bit “higher” and more almond shaped, while I gave Roxie a tad more slanted eyes.

I also gave it a try on getting advice within the sketch-stages, but since I didn’t want to put WIPS online, I have been emailing my mom wips from time to time to ask for advice which works rather well.

Some of the things I’m most proud of in drawing are:
Rigels hair.
SilverSnow’s skirt ( it looks alsmost 3d ish. )
The silver.
And the snowflakes

Some of the things that need improvement are.
Facial expressions, I feel like I loose a lot of emotion when I draw faces without lines.
Shading with coloured light. ( I’m not completely satishfied with the lighting of Rigel )
Drawing ice! I’m really not to happy with how the ice came out… but I tried it several different ways, and this was just the best I managed to do. ( I have draw them ALL seperatly… it was so much work )

A few fun-facts:
I was a bit inspired by the movie Frozen and Elsa, even though I haven’t even seen the movie yet.
While working on this I had several evenings where I listened to “Let it Go” from Frozen over and over again, while singing along.
For the snowflakes I didn’t want to just download a brush so I actually looked up tutorials on making paper snowflakes, and scanned those in and made the into snowflake brushes for Photoshop.
I have actually been standing awkwardly in the mirror trying to make these poses while taking photo’s of them with my phone at the same time to use as references.
